about me and the suzuki method

Hello! I'm Eva, it's nice to meet you! You're here because you want to explore the possibility of either you or your child beginning to learn violin with the Suzuki method.  I'm happy you're here!

A bit about me:

I began learning the Suzuki method when I was 3 years old and have been playing violin ever since.  I have a Bachelors degree in Music from Mount Holyoke College (where I studied Violin, Piano, Voice and classical Guitar) and have extensive experience playing in groups (district orchestras, youth orchestras, college orchestras, chamber, quartets, jazz, etc.)

The Suzuki method is typically geared towards children and is as much of a commitment from the student as it is from the parent.  The parent will commit to attend each lesson and practice with their child at home multiple times a week.

Location: My home located in the Rosebank neighborhood of East Nashville

Frequency: Weekly or bi-weekly

Instrument: you'd be required to rent or purchase a violin and bow from a local music store that fits the size of the student. Some recommendations include The Violin Shop and Williams Fine Violins.

FAQS

What is the Suzuki method?

There are many ways to describe it, but speaking from my own experience beginning with Suzuki when I was 3 years old, it’s a wonderful way to learn how to play an instrument. You first learn the basics and you focus heavily on listening to music and learning to play by ear before learning how to read music. The books we will learn will take you (or your child!) through many different facets of learning classical violin which will set an excellent foundation should you want to transition into a different study of violin (fiddle, jazz, etc.)

How long are lessons?

Lessons can vary in duration based on your needs. Typically, they begin at 30 minutes and can go up to 45 minutes or 60 minutes depending on what’s best for you or your child.

How much do lessons cost?

The cost of lessons depends on the length and begin around $60. Please reach out to me using the form above and we can discuss what is the best fit and packages for a discount.

How young do you start taking students?

I typically recommend students ages 5 and up, but if you have a child younger than 5 who is excited and eager to learn, please reach out and we can talk!

Will I need my own instrument?

Yes! You will need to rent or purchase a violin and bow from a local music shop that fits the size you need. Some recommendations for rentals or purchasing include The Violin Shop and Williams Fine Violins.
